If you visit your doctor due to development of psoriasis then initially most of the doctors will suggest you a particular psoriasis cream, lotion or an ointment. Most of the time these work due to their easy penetration into the psoriasis effected skin than other form of drugs.
How psoriasis cream is used?
It is important to know how psoriasis cream is applied, most of the work is done by the layer of ointment or cream which actually gets in touch with the effected skin therefore thick coating of these cream is useless rather some time thick layer may affect the ultraviolet light therapy. If you applied thick layer of the cream than light will not be able to cross the layer and you will remain unable to get full benefits of these treatments. It is also important to rub the cream gently only on the effected patch of skin, there is no gain in applying the cream on the skin which is not affected by psoriasis. However the most important is to read and obey the instructions which came with psoriasis cream especially when it involves bathing as well as ultraviolet light therapy.
The skin affected due to psoriasis becomes very fragile and absorbs anything very easily which came into contact therefore don’t use any thing which is being suggested by anyone. However if you want to try something than you must consult your doctor first even if they state that it’s a natural psoriasis cream.
In case instead of heeling any psoriasis cream prescribed by doctor start irritating your skin than you consult your doctor again and let him know about the problem, most of the doctors will give you some alternative which suits your skin. It is better that you maintain the record of such creams and ointments which doesn’t suits you and inform the doctor if you have any previous history so that your doctor can advise you in a better way.
Follow the instructions on the cream
You have to obey some do’s and don’ts while using the psoriasis cream or ointments. Some of them are listed below:
1. Always adhere to the instructions which are given with creams or as advice by your doctor.
2. Apply the cream properly to the psoriasis affected patch.
3. Rub the cream gently at affected area so that it makes good contact with the skin.
4. Don’t apply thick layer of cream over the affected surface.
5. Don’t try other people remedies even if they are tested and consult your doctor for all types of medication.
6. Make a record of your treatment and inform your doctor about any problem previously you faced due any cream or lotion.
Some psoriasis creams which people normally use without any prescription like Vaseline or bland ointments without any special ingredients. Some time these creams works better than the best psoriasis cream in addition bath oils, hand creams and oily soaps may also produce good results against psoriasis. The main reason of Vaseline effectiveness is that it retains moisture and prevents the skin from getting dry. For this very reason your skin develops less cracks and crumbling scales. Vaseline and other bland applications also reduce the pace of which the epidermal cells grow and thus reduce irritation. Oily soaps or bath oils leaves a protective greasy later over the surface of skin which trap the moisture for a while and gives smoothing effect. No matter what ever the procedure but it’s true that some of these bland non-specific creams sometime even work better than prescribed ones and there is no harm in using these types of creams.
Most of the psoriasis cream only eliminates the symptoms and does not address the root cause of the disease, getting relief for the time being is good but it’s better to eliminate the psoriasis once and forever.
